The benefits of reading have been drilled into us since the Biff & Chip chronicles. We then swiftly moved to the Jacqueline Wilson phenomenon before Harry Potter graced every bookshelf around the world.
People often underestimate the power of reading. Reading opens our minds beyond our thoughts, views and beliefs and essentially allows us to gauge a better understanding of the world, the people around us and ourselves.
‘The Freemind Experience’ explores how a combination of ancient wisdom and techniques can alter your mindset towards a happier life. My favourite part is the teachings of useful practices such as meditation, connecting with nature and the boomerang letter. The boomerang letter is an exercise that involves writing a letter from one part of you and then responding with another side. I know this may initially sound like some sort of scene from the movie, Split, but it honestly allows you to gather a deeper understanding of why you may be feeling or acting a certain way.
Inspired by an epiphany he had, Harley Street hypnotherapist, Tom Fortes Mayer, wanted others to experience this liberating feeling for themselves. By overcoming three pillars, you can essentially reconnect with your inner self and live a life of peace.
Pillar 1: Peace – The first pillar is based upon the idea of deprogramming your fear and negative emotions that limit your thoughts and beliefs. It delves into your emotional intelligence and how you can achieve freedom of the mind.
Pillar 2: Power – The second part is focused on reprogramming your mind to discover new ways to relate to yourself. It allows you to unleash your true potential and experience a life of fulfilment.
Pillar 3: Purpose – The final pillar teaches you to reconnect. It’s the idea that everyone and everything has a purpose and so everything becomes more meaningful. When you have achieved this, you will start to feel unconditional love for all things.
“From early childhood each one of us has invented our bodies and our personalities through our beliefs, conditioning our responses to everyday stress. But we have mostly done this unconsciously, which is why we may now feel unfulfilled.”
I re-read this one to thoroughly process the message. Despite being a fairly easy read, the concepts can initially seem a little intense – I definitely recommend reading when you have a spare quiet hour in the day.
Chopra explains that the journey of self-transformation starts with committing ourselves to a deeper awareness. He continues to say that every cell of our body is made up of two invisible components, awareness and energy. Through ten key messages (five for the body, five for the soul), Chopra explores the body’s infinite capacity for change and growth. He says this can be achieved through guiding or redirecting distorted energy patterns.
This is definitely one of my favourites! Through junior school, I was obsessed with crystals and began collecting them (with very little knowledge about them.) This book will be a hit or miss for some as I know there is a lot of scepticism surrounding crystals but if you’re up for trying something new, this is a go-to.
‘The Power of Crystal Healing’ is the perfect introduction for anyone wanting to learn more about crystals and how they can raise your vibrations and enhance your life. Knowles explores every crystal using a non-patronising tone and it is graced with beautiful imagery, making it a perfect bedtime read.
You may have seen this book crop up a decent amount of times. When released, it became an instant bestseller in France before becoming a must-read across the globe.
Loreau lives by the iconic belief that less is more and in this book, she explores how it can change your life. It delves into how the things that we often take for granted are actually quite detrimental for positive wellbeing. From decluttering to detoxing, Loreau shares how you can live a stress-free, happy life.
